To take advantage of the great business opportunities offered by internacional markets, as well as theoretical knowledge and practical experience, companies in the sector need architects with the skills to advance their careers and achieve success.
The Tri-Continental Master's Degree in Advanced Architectural Design offered by Universidad Europea de Madrid's School of Architecture aims to meet this demand through joint academic professional periods of study in three world-class universities, located on different continents and belonging to different cultures. During the Master's program, students will carry out specific assignments that are coordinated in each host city, which constitute different but complementary architectural paradigms:
Spain_UEM-EA (Universidad Europea de Madrid. School of Architecture, Madrid) THEORETICAL BASES OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN. The Universidad Europea de Madrid is one of the most prestigious private institutions in Spain. It is a member of Laureate International Universities, world leader in higher education. The School of Architecture has a strong international profile, is devoted to connecting students´ training with the professional world, and has become a reference of academic excellence.
China_TJADRI (Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute, Shanghai) PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP. Founded in 1958, TJADRI is one of the leading design groups in China with the most comprehensive range of disciplines available in the country, allowing it to carry out a large variety of design projects. The Institute employs 933 professionals including 112 State-Registered First Class Architects and 146 State-Registered First Class Structural Engineers.
USA_NSAD (NewSchool of Architecture and Design, San Diego) MASTER´S THESIS. NSAD is one of Laureate International University's Centers of Excellence in Architecture, Art and Design. It provides an internacional landscape for the exchange of curriculum, faculty, and students, as well as opportunities for dual degree programs. The New School of Architecture and Design, located in San Diego, California, is a leader in architecture education.
The Master's program offers students a platform that combines one year of knowledge, experience, and the skills of an internationally focused architect with a solid foundation in theory and practice, which a traditional focus in architecture cannot offer. Upon completion of the Master's program, the extensive exposure of students to intercultural contexts in favorable economic conditions, including networks of personal contacts established with important figures in the international professional community, will facilitate their access to positions in any international public or prívate engineering or architectural firm or studio.
At present, there is no graduate program in Spain with a scope equaling that of the Tri-Continental Master's Degree in Advanced Architectural Design by Universidad Europea de Madrid's School of Architecture. The program is designed, developed, and taught by leading professionals and specialists with real market experience in international architectural projects, with the added support of university institutions and highly prestigious companies. Master graduate profile Master's students, upon completion of the program, will receive their Tri-Continental Master in Advanced Architectural Design, from Universidad Europea de Madrid.

Temario: Spain_UEM-EA FOUNDATIONS OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Theory-based sessions are structured in complementary workshops in which students learn how to integrate the technological, artistic and contextual parameters that embody the complexity of architectural and urban themes. Learning is structured around a series of international benchmark studies of recognized quality and the assignment of related architectural design projects.
China_TJADRI INTERNSHIP A selection of specific professional internships will allow students to experience the different stages of the development of real architectural projects, using representative works in Shanghai. During this period, the working method of the participants in the Master's program will be one of cross-disciplinary collaboration within multidisciplinary teams:

USA_NSAD PREPARATION OF THE MASTER'S THESIS The graduation project will be a synthesis that links the knowledge and skills acquired during the previous theoretical and practical phases within a common theme. Supervised by a group of coordinated faculty members, students are required to carry out a complete project, from the preliminary study of the context to the publication of a finished and meticulously-prepared project.

At the end of each stage of the Master's program, a midterm critique session will be held for the collection of documents and assessment of experiences. The Master's Thesis will be presented at a closing ceremony and final exhibition at UEM-SA, with the participation of professors from other institutions where the Master's degree is taught.
Duración: Lenght: From October 2011 to June 2012. The Master's program has a total duration of 60 ECTS Credits, or 500 hours of instruction, including lectures, reviews of Project implementation, visits and supervision of internships.
Schedule: The content of the Master's program is divided into 3 trimesters, which will be coursed consecutively in different host cities (20 ECTS Credits/trimester). Campus-based instruction will be organized as follows: Term 1 Spain_UEM-EA September-December 12 weeks x 3 days x 5 hours Term 2 China_TJADRI January-March 12 weeks x 5 days x 8 hours Term 3 USA_NSAD April-June 12 weeks x 3 days x 4 hours Every two trimesters there is a two-week break for traveling from one country to the next. Enrollment in the Master's program includes housing in the student dormitory in Shanghai, and administrative advising on the dormitories in Madrid and San Diego.
